Derek Mak Maw musical universe is a combination of tradition and modernity, raw emotions and refined sound research.
His music opens to the rhythm of cumbia at cocktail hour, before nocturnal electro electrifies the psychedelic hours of French Touch. This eclecticism is no accident, but a philosophy: that of a songwriter who crosses genres as one crosses borders, where derision is expressed with a taste for the outcast and the authentic.
Derek Mak Maw is of French-Latin descent, and lies at the crossroads of cultures and disciplines. He draws inspiration both from his European and Californian heritage.
As a painter and designer, his sound universe is the result of a constant dialogue between image and sound, form and vibration. This global vision of creation is also been nourished by his experience in the French acoustic innovation at Cabasse Audio.
